The Class 54xx with it's larger wheels than the normal 57xx worked mainly around the London area only going westward to Westbury and north to Banbury. It was mainly used for passenger duty with push/pull capabilities. The model allows auto and non auto to be constructed with/without top feed.

These locomotives were a conversion of the smaller tank "Metro" class converted between 1989-99. There were 31 engines converted. The length of the tanks meant that the laminated springs would foul the tanks so a cluster of 4 volute springs were fitted. Some of these
locomotives were fitted with auto gear around 1930. Other variations were top feed and
condensing gear as well as enclosed cabs. Numbered 1401-1420,3500,3561-3570,1446,1460 and 1462. Plates available from our range.
